1860-1880. 82x72. This is made of unweighted silks, meaning that no minerals were added to the silks to make them rustle as was common in the 19th century. The main blocks are black silk satin and surrounded by a multitude of colors, mainly burgundy, brown, gray and fuchsia. There is a three-inch black border and an added black binding. The backing is composed of a piece of silk with a pattern of regimented caramel-colored dots on a neutral ground. This quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted in fans (elbow or missionary quilting) at 6-7 st/in. Colored thread was used, mostly red. Several fuchsia silk pieces have shattered as is often found in silk quilts.

-Item is pictured on a modern size queen bed.
