1880. 76x78. Made in Barbour County, WV, USA by Annette Hudkins Riley. This bed cover is a treasure, and has great value to the Riley family when it was first made, which is why they kept it in the family until now (purchased in Maryland). The quilting is extraordinary at 9st/in around the applique work, in complex wreaths between the motifs, and in undulating ferns with appliqued pink buds on the border. The pink binding is hand-applied, but is quite worn. There is a dime-sized stain on the top and some foxing and a repair on the back edge. There is no batting in this quilt, and the colors of pink and mint green have faded so much, that the piece just looks like a quilted sheet. The staining of this piece reduces the condition to fair.
-Item is pictured on a modern size queen bed.
